ESTETIKA VISUAL, SIMBOLISME, DAN FUNGSI SOSIAL KOSTUM TARI TOPENG SETYOTOMO GLAGAHDOWO TUMPANG

Abstract

Penelitian ini membahas kostum Tari Topeng Setyotomo di Gelagahdowo–Tumpang, Malang, dengan fokus pada analisis estetika visual, makna simbolik, dan fungsi sosial budaya. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah deskriptif kualitatif dengan kerangka teori estetika Nusantara, antropologi interpretatif Clifford Geertz, dan fungsionalisme Bronislaw Malinowski. Data diperoleh melalui observasi langsung, dokumentasi visual, serta wawancara mendalam dengan pelaku seni, khususnya Pak Budi Utomo dan Bowo sebagai pembuat serta penafsir makna kostum. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kostum Setyotomo tidak hanya menjadi perangkat pertunjukan visual, tetapi merupakan teks budaya yang sarat simbol dan berfungsi sebagai penanda identitas komunitas. Warna, motif, ornamen, dan struktur busana merepresentasikan filosofi kehidupan masyarakat Jawa Timur yang berorientasi pada alam, moralitas, dan hubungan sosial. Selain itu, kostum mengalami transformasi estetika seiring perkembangan zaman, namun tetap mempertahankan pakem tradisi sebagai bentuk kebudayaan yang berkelanjutan. Penelitian ini menegaskan bahwa kostum Topeng Setyotomo adalah medium estetika sekaligus perangkat sosial yang memastikan keberlangsungan seni topeng dalam konteks budaya Nusantara.
