Publication Ethics

The Journal of Multiscale Materials Informatics (JIMAT), published by Universitas Dian Nuswantoro, is committed to promoting integrity, transparency, accountability, and ethical conduct in scholarly publishing.

JIMAT's publication ethics framework is informed by the principles and guidance of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

1. Responsibilities of Authors

Authors are expected to:

  • Submit original work that has not been published or submitted simultaneously elsewhere.

  • Present research methods, data, analyses, and findings accurately and transparently.

  • Properly acknowledge relevant sources and contributions.

  • Ensure that all listed authors meet appropriate authorship criteria and approve the submitted manuscript.

  • Disclose funding sources and potential conflicts of interest.

  • Obtain necessary ethical approvals and permissions where applicable.

  • Cooperate with editorial investigations and promptly report significant errors discovered after publication.

2. Responsibilities of Editors

Editors are responsible for making fair, independent, and evidence-based editorial decisions.

Editorial decisions must be based on scientific merit, methodological quality, originality, relevance, and compliance with publication ethics, without discrimination or inappropriate influence.

Editors must protect manuscript confidentiality, manage conflicts of interest, and address allegations of research misconduct appropriately.

3. Responsibilities of Reviewers

Reviewers must maintain confidentiality, provide objective and constructive evaluations, disclose conflicts of interest, and complete reviews within agreed timelines.

Reviewers must not exploit unpublished manuscript content or confidential research information for personal advantage.

4. Plagiarism and Research Misconduct

JIMAT does not tolerate plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, inappropriate image manipulation, citation manipulation, or other forms of research misconduct.

Suspected misconduct will be assessed fairly, with appropriate opportunities for clarification and reference to relevant COPE guidance.

5. Conflicts of Interest

Authors, editors, and reviewers must disclose relationships or interests that could reasonably influence the research, peer-review process, or editorial decision.

6. Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence

Authors must disclose substantive use of generative AI tools in manuscript preparation or research when applicable.

AI tools cannot be listed as authors. Human authors remain fully responsible for the accuracy, originality, integrity, and reliability of submitted work.

Editors and reviewers must not upload confidential manuscripts or unpublished research materials to external AI services without appropriate authorization and safeguards.

7. Corrections, Retractions, and Expressions of Concern

JIMAT may issue corrections, retractions, or expressions of concern when necessary to maintain the integrity of the scholarly record.

Such actions will be based on the nature and severity of the identified issue, available evidence, and applicable publication ethics guidance.

8. Complaints and Appeals

Authors and other stakeholders may submit substantiated complaints or appeals concerning editorial decisions or publication ethics.

Complaints and appeals will be evaluated fairly by an appropriate editor or authorized representative without relevant conflicts of interest.

9. Research Data and Reproducibility

Authors are encouraged to provide sufficient methodological details, data availability information, and supporting materials to facilitate verification and reproducibility, subject to ethical, legal, and confidentiality restrictions.

10. Ethical Oversight

Research involving human participants, animals, sensitive data, or other regulated activities must comply with applicable ethical standards and institutional requirements.

Authors must provide relevant ethical approval information and informed-consent statements where required.
