This study aims to (1) describe the personality structure of the main character, Satimah, in Candhik Ala by Ismoe Rianto, and (2) identify the factors influencing her personality using a qualitative descriptive method. The research employs an objective approach based on Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory, which highlights the roles of the id, ego, and superego in shaping character behavior. Data were sourced from 24 episodes of the story published in Panjebar Semangat magazine (editions 26–49, 2007). Data collection involved literature study, documentation, and text observation. Analysis was conducted through qualitative descriptive methods and coding techniques to uncover psychological elements. Findings show that Satimah’s id appears through emotional, impulsive behavior, while her ego helps her manage instinct with reality, demonstrated in her rational problem-solving. Her superego shapes her moral decisions, especially in protecting her child from the emotional burden of family conflict. Personality formation in Satimah is influenced by internal factors like psychological trauma and external factors such as economic and social pressures. This study enriches the field of literary psychology by exploring the impact of trauma on a character’s personality in Javanese serialized fiction, a genre that remains underexplored in academic research. It also highlights the importance of short stories as a medium for reflecting social and psychological issues.References
