Abstract

This study analyzes psychological trauma and emotional isolation in Takopi's Original Sin usingJudith Herman’s (1992) Trauma Theory and Erik Erikson’s (1950) Psychosocial Development Theory.Employing a qualitative descriptive method, the research examines character dialogues and narrative eventsto identify how trauma is represented and how it influences psychological development. The findings revealthat trauma in the manga is chronic and interpersonal, resulting from neglect, bullying, and lack ofemotional support, which aligns with the concept of Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD)characterized by emotional dysregulation, disconnection, and disturbed self-perception. Consequently, thecharacters experience psychological and emotional isolation, reflected in their withdrawal, inability toexpress feelings, and difficulty forming relationships. Furthermore, trauma disrupts key psychosocialstages, particularly trust, identity, and intimacy, leading to developmental derailment and preventinghealthy psychological growth. Therefore, emotional isolation emerges as a long-term consequence ofunresolved trauma, demonstrating that trauma functions as the primary cause while isolation becomes itspsychological and developmental outcome.
