Author Guidelines

GUIDELINES FOR AUTHORS

1. GENERAL INFORMATION

Jurnal Manajemen dan Dinamika Bisnis (JMDB) is a scientific journal published by the Management Department, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Dian Nuswantoro. JMDB is published twice a year, in May and November.

JMDB publishes original scientific articles based on empirical research, conceptual studies, and literature reviews in the fields of Management, Business, and Economics.

Authors are invited to submit manuscripts that meet the following requirements:

1. Manuscripts may be written in Indonesian or English.
2. The manuscript must be an original work and must not have been previously published or be under consideration for publication in another journal.
3. The manuscript must not contain plagiarism, fabricated data, falsified data, or other forms of academic misconduct.
4. The manuscript should be approximately 15–20 pages, including tables, figures, and references.
5. The manuscript should be prepared using Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx).
6. The manuscript must follow the formatting and structural requirements specified in these Guidelines for Authors.
7. Authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the data, references, citations, and other information presented in the manuscript.
8. Authors should use appropriate reference-management software, such as Mendeley, EndNote, or equivalent applications, to manage citations and references.

2. ARTICLE STRUCTURE

Manuscripts submitted to JMDB should generally follow the following structure:

1. Title
2. Author Names and Affiliations
3. Abstract
4. Keywords
5. Introduction
6. Literature Review
7. Research Methods
8. Results and Discussion
9. Conclusion
10. References

The structure may be adjusted according to the characteristics of the manuscript, particularly for conceptual or literature review articles, provided that the manuscript maintains a clear academic structure and logical flow.

2.1 Title

The title should:

• Clearly reflect the main topic or focus of the article.
• Be concise, informative, and specific.
• Contain a maximum of 20 words.
• Use Times New Roman, 18 pt, bold, centered, and single spacing.
• Avoid unnecessary abbreviations and overly general expressions.

2.2 Authors and Affiliations

Author names should be written without academic degrees. Example:

Author One¹, Author Two²*, etc

¹ Department/Study Program, University Name, Country
² Department/Study Program, University Name, Country

Author names should use Times New Roman, 12 pt, bold, centered.

If all authors are affiliated with the same institution, the affiliation only needs to be stated once.

The corresponding author should be clearly identified using an asterisk (*) and the corresponding author's email address should be provided.

2.3 Abstract

The manuscript must contain abstracts in English and Indonesian. Each abstract should:

• Be no more than 150 words.
• Be written in Times New Roman, 12 pt, single spacing.
• Briefly describe the research background/objective, methodology, main findings, and conclusion.
• Be written as a single paragraph.
• Avoid citations, tables, figures, and unexplained abbreviations.

The English abstract should be written in italic, while the Indonesian abstract should use normal formatting.

2.4 Keywords

Each manuscript should include 3–5 keywords. Keywords should:

• Represent the main concepts of the article.
• Be written in Times New Roman, 12 pt, bold italic.
• Be separated by semicolons (;).

Example:

Keywords: organizational commitment; digital capability; technology adoption; MSME performance

Keywords should be provided in both English and Indonesian.

2.5 Introduction

The Introduction should provide a clear and logical explanation of:

• The research background and context.
• The research problem or phenomenon.
• Relevant theoretical and empirical gaps.
• The novelty or contribution of the study.
• The research objectives.
• The research questions and/or hypotheses, where applicable.

The Introduction should be supported by relevant and up-to-date scholarly references.

2.6 Literature Review

The Literature Review should present relevant theories, concepts, and previous empirical studies related to the research topic. The literature review should:

• Establish the theoretical foundation of the study.
• Critically discuss relevant previous research.
• Identify research gaps.
• Explain the theoretical or conceptual relationships among variables, where applicable.
• Provide a logical basis for the research hypotheses or propositions.

Authors are encouraged to prioritize recent and relevant scholarly sources, particularly peer-reviewed journal articles.

2.7 Research Methods

The Research Methods section should provide sufficient information to allow readers to understand and, where appropriate, replicate the study. Depending on the type of research, this section may include:

• Research design.
• Population and sample.
• Sampling technique.
• Data sources.
• Data collection procedures.
• Measurement of variables.
• Research instruments.
• Data analysis techniques.
• Model specifications or analytical procedures.

For qualitative studies, authors should clearly describe the research setting, participants or data sources, data collection procedures, and analytical methods.

2.8 Results and Discussion

The Results and Discussion section should present and interpret the findings of the study. Authors should:

• Present findings clearly and systematically.
• Use tables and figures where they improve clarity.
• Relate findings to the research objectives and hypotheses.
• Compare findings with relevant previous studies.
• Explain theoretical and/or practical implications.
• Discuss unexpected or contradictory findings where relevant.

Results should not merely repeat information already presented in tables or figures.

2.9 Conclusion

The Conclusion should provide a concise answer to the research objectives based on the findings. The Conclusion may include:

• Main research findings.
• Theoretical implications.
• Managerial or practical implications.
• Research limitations.
• Suggestions for future research.

The Conclusion should not introduce new findings or information that has not been discussed in the manuscript.

3. MANUSCRIPT FORMATTING

3.1 Page and Layout

The manuscript should follow these formatting requirements:

• Paper size: A4 (210 × 297 mm).
• Margins: 2.5 cm on all sides.
• Font: Times New Roman.
• Line spacing: single spacing (1.0).
• Manuscript length: approximately 15–20 pages, including tables, figures, and references.

3.2 Headings and Subheadings

Chapter and section headings should:

• Be written in bold.
• Not be numbered.
• Use uppercase letters for main headings.

Subheadings may be used to organize the manuscript and should be written in a consistent format. The Introduction should generally not be divided into subheadings unless necessary.

3.3 Numbering

Short numbered statements should be incorporated into paragraphs rather than presented as separate numbered lists where appropriate.

Example:

The objectives of this study are: (1) to analyze market share advantages; and (2) to analyze the competitive position of Central Java's yarn and textile industry in the global market.

4. TABLES AND FIGURES

Tables and figures should be presented clearly and must be referred to in the main text.

Tables

• The table title should be placed above the table.
• The title should use Times New Roman, 12 pt, bold.
• Tables must be editable and must not be presented as scanned images.
• Tables should be numbered consecutively.
• Authors should provide the source of the data below the table when applicable.

Figures

• The figure title should be placed below the figure.
• The title should use Times New Roman, 12 pt, bold.
• Figures must be clear and readable.
• Figures should not be presented as scanned documents.
• Figures should be numbered consecutively.

5. EQUATIONS

Mathematical equations must be prepared using Microsoft Equation Editor or an equivalent equation editor. Equations must be editable and must not be inserted as scanned images or screenshots.

Explanation of Symbols

Explanations of mathematical symbols should be presented in a single paragraph without using the equal sign (=). Each symbol should be separated by commas.

Example:

where d(x,y) is the input distance function, x represents the input vector, and y represents the output vector.

6. CITATION

JMDB uses an APA Format.

Authors must ensure that every source cited in the manuscript is included in the reference list and that every reference listed is cited in the manuscript.

6.1 One Author

• Soekartawi (2023) stated that ...
• ... production results are referred to as output (Sudarsono, 1984).

6.2 Two Authors

• Cruthley and Hansen (2019) stated that ...
• ... customer loyalty tends to decline (Kotler & Keller, 2026).

6.3 More Than Two Authors

For works with more than two authors, use et al.

• Guthrie et al. (2026) argued that ...
• ... organizational performance is influenced by several factors (Susilowati et al., 2010).

6.4 Citation with Page Number

When a specific page is cited:

• Griffin (2023, p. 5) stated that ...
• ... one dependent variable (Ghozali, 2021, p. 205).

6.5 Secondary Sources

Authors should cite the original source whenever possible. Secondary citations should only be used when the original source cannot reasonably be accessed.

Example:

Jackson (1985, as cited in Yang & Peterson, 2024) stated that ...

6.6 Multiple Sources

Multiple sources should be separated by semicolons:

(Mardiyah, 2021; Kusumawati, 2019)

When citing several works by the same author:

(Djakman, 2018, 2020)

7. REFERENCES / BIBLIOGRAPHY

The reference list must contain all and only the sources cited in the manuscript. Authors are strongly encouraged to use reference-management software such as Mendeley, EndNote, Zotero, or equivalent applications. The following requirements apply:

1. References should be relevant to the manuscript and preferably drawn from peer-reviewed scholarly sources.
2. Authors are encouraged to use recent references, particularly articles published within the last five years, while older seminal works may be cited when theoretically relevant.
3. Authors should prioritize references from reputable academic journals, books from established publishers, and authoritative scholarly sources.
4. All references must be cited in the manuscript.
5. All citations in the manuscript must appear in the reference list.
6. Reference entries should be arranged alphabetically according to the surname of the first author.
7. Authors should ensure that author names, publication year, article title, journal title, volume, issue, page numbers, and DOI/URL information are accurate.
8. DOIs should be provided whenever available.
9. References should use a consistent citation and bibliography style throughout the manuscript.

Authors should refer to the JMDB article template for the required formatting of the reference list.

8. USE OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) TOOLS

JMDB recognizes that authors may use Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools as supporting tools during the preparation of manuscripts. However, authors remain fully responsible for the originality, accuracy, integrity, and academic quality of their manuscripts. AI tools may be used for limited and appropriate purposes, such as:

• Improving grammar, spelling, punctuation, and language clarity.
• Assisting with language translation.
• Improving readability and academic expression.
• Assisting with formatting or organizing information.
• Supporting brainstorming or generating ideas, provided that the resulting content is critically evaluated and verified by the authors.

AI tools must not replace the authors' intellectual contribution, judgment, or responsibility in conducting research and writing the manuscript. Authors must not use AI tools to:

• Generate or fabricate research data, results, references, or citations.
• Falsify, manipulate, or misrepresent research findings.
• Produce substantial parts of the manuscript without meaningful human review and intellectual contribution.
• Create false or unverifiable references.
• Misrepresent AI-generated content as entirely the authors' own work when disclosure is required.
• Violate copyright, confidentiality, privacy, or other ethical requirements.
• Upload confidential, unpublished, personal, or sensitive research materials to AI systems where doing so may compromise confidentiality or data protection.

Authors remain responsible for checking and verifying all AI-assisted content, including factual claims, citations, references, calculations, translations, and interpretations.

If AI tools have been used in a manner that materially contributes to the preparation of the manuscript, authors should disclose the name of the AI tool, the purpose of its use, and the extent of its contribution in an appropriate statement in the manuscript.

The use of AI tools does not constitute authorship. AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors.

The final responsibility for the content, originality, accuracy, and ethical integrity of the manuscript rests entirely with the human authors.

9. ORIGINALITY AND ACADEMIC INTEGRITY

Authors must ensure that submitted manuscripts are original and have not been previously published or simultaneously submitted to another journal.

Authors are responsible for:

• Ensuring the originality of their work.
• Properly acknowledging and citing all sources.
• Obtaining permission for copyrighted material where necessary.
• Ensuring that research data and findings are reported accurately.
• Disclosing relevant conflicts of interest.
• Following applicable research ethics requirements.

JMDB may use appropriate tools and procedures to screen manuscripts for plagiarism or other forms of academic misconduct.

10. MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION

Manuscripts must be submitted electronically through the JMDB online journal system:

Authors submitting a manuscript must confirm that:

1. The manuscript is original and has not been previously published.
2. The manuscript is not currently under consideration by another journal.
3. The manuscript complies with JMDB's Author Guidelines.
4. All authors have approved the submitted version of the manuscript.
5. All sources used in the manuscript have been appropriately cited.
6. Any potential conflicts of interest have been disclosed.
7. Any use of AI tools has been conducted in accordance with JMDB's AI policy.
