WLB refers to a condition in which individuals can allocate their time and energy evenly between work and personal life, which in turn can improve quality of life, mental well-being, and productivity. However, achieving WLB is not easy and is influenced by various factors. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews using open-ended questions to explore the informants’ views and experiences regarding work-life balance. Based on interviews with employees at PKBI, it can be concluded that maintaining a balance between work and personal life is a top priority for them. However, efforts to achieve this balance are affected by the unpredictable nature of their work, which often requires a high degree of flexibility in managing time and tasks.
2026-01-26T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Journal Occupational Health Hygiene and Safety https://publikasi.dinus.ac.id/johhs/article/view/12866 The Relationship Between Mental Workload, Noise, Individual Characteristics and Work Stress among Workers at PT. PLN Nusantara Power UP Muara Tawar 2025-11-19T21:46:06+00:00 Kania Fitrianti Zahrah kaniafitriantiz13@gmail.com Ida Wahyuni kaniafitriantiz13@gmail.com Ekawati Ekawati kaniafitriantiz13@gmail.com
Work environments demanding high productivity often ignore workers' psychological aspects, triggering work stress. Job stress is an individual's response to work pressure exceeding their coping ability. A main cause is mental workload—an individual's perception of task weight to be completed within certain time and conditions. Additionally, workplace noise can worsen psychological conditions, especially if continuous. Individual characteristics such as age, length of service, and education level also determine a person's vulnerability to stress. These factors, if not properly managed, can negatively impact worker health, safety, and productivity. This study analyzed the relationship between mental workload, noise, individual characteristics, and work stress using quantitative methods with cross-sectional design. The population comprised 134 workers in noise areas divided into 4 fields: operators, machine maintenance, electrical maintenance, and control & instrument maintenance. Using proportionate stratified sampling and accidental sampling techniques, 60 samples were obtained. Results showed 76.7% of respondents experienced moderate work stress, with the most dominant cause being qualitative overload (33.3%). Chi-square test analysis revealed a relationship between mental workload and work stress (p-value = 0.003). However, noise (p-value = 0.422), age (p-value = 0.512), length of service (p-value = 0.259), and education level (p-value = 0.201) were not related to work stress. In conclusion, there is a significant relationship between mental workload and work stress among workers at PT. PLN Nusantara Power UP Muara Tawar. Therefore, it is important for companies to identify and manage stress-inducing factors to create a healthy and sustainable work environment.
2026-01-26T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Journal Occupational Health Hygiene and Safety https://publikasi.dinus.ac.id/johhs/article/view/14816 The Impact of Workplace Stretching on Reduction of Low Back Pain Complaints Among Undip Library Staff 2025-11-19T21:47:49+00:00 Herna Yunita F Br Ginting hernayunita131@gmail.com Yuliani Setyaningsih hernayunita131@gmail.com Suroto Suroto hernayunita131@gmail.com
Low Back Pain (LBP) is a musculoskeletal disorder characterized by pain in the lower back. Office workers engaged in prolonged static sitting are at risk of developing LBP, particularly when adopting non-ergonomic positions. A preliminary study on two staff members of the Library Technical Implementation at Diponegoro University (UNDIP) indicated they were at risk of experiencing low back pain. Prolonged sitting with minimal movement causes muscle tension, reduced joint flexibility, and impaired blood circulation in the lower back, triggering LBP onset.

This study analyzed the effect of workplace stretching on reducing low back pain complaints among UPT Library staff at UNDIP. Using a quantitative approach with pre-experimental design and total sampling method, all 30 UPT Library staff members participated. Data were collected using the Modified Oswestry Low Back Pain Disability Questionnaire.

The Wilcoxon test results showed that workplace stretching interventions significantly reduced low back pain complaints, with p = 0.001. The majority of library staff experienced LBP, with 22 individuals (73.3%) reporting symptoms. Most older respondents suffered from LBP, accounting for 19 individuals (95.0%).

Two variables were significantly associated with LBP: age (p = 0.001) and years of service (p = 0.007). Meanwhile, Body Mass Index (BMI) (p = 0.657) and working duration (p = 0.222) showed no significant relationship. The findings demonstrate that workplace stretching is an effective intervention for reducing low back pain among office workers performing prolonged sedentary tasks.
2026-01-26T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Journal Occupational Health Hygiene and Safety https://publikasi.dinus.ac.id/johhs/article/view/15603 The Relationship between Individual Internal Factors and Work Fatigue among Employees of the Semarang City Health Office 2026-01-15T03:02:32+00:00 Tiara Bethari Pramudya tiarabethari99@gmail.com Febriyanti Harianja tiarabethari99@gmail.com Siti Endah Wahyuningsih tiarabethari99@gmail.com Bayu Yoni Setyo Nugroho bayuyoni@dsn.dinus.ac.id
Work fatigue is a physical and mental condition that leads to reduced work capacity and endurance and is often influenced by individual and job-related factors. This study aimed to analyze the association between individual internal factors (age, nutritional status, and length of service) and work fatigue among employees of the Public Health Division at the Semarang City Health Office. An analytical quantitative method with a cross-sectional design was employed in December 2025, involving all 31 employees as respondents. The independent variables were age, nutritional status measured by Body Mass Index (BMI), and length of service, while the dependent variable was the level of work fatigue measured using a reaction timer. Data were analyzed using the Spearman rank correlation test with a significance level of p < 0.05. The results showed that length of service (p = 0.020) and age (p = 0.030) had significant positive associations with work fatigue, whereas nutritional status (p = 0.257) was not significantly associated. Employees with longer tenure and older age tended to experience higher levels of work fatigue. In conclusion, work fatigue appears to be more strongly influenced by duration of employment and aging processes than by nutritional status. These findings highlight the importance of monitoring workload, providing periodic rest breaks, and managing job rotation to minimize fatigue and maintain employee productivity.
2026-01-26T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Journal Occupational Health Hygiene and Safety https://publikasi.dinus.ac.id/johhs/article/view/15577 Analysis of Physical Environmental Factors Related to Tuberculosis Occurrence in Elementary Schools in North Semarang Sub-District 2026-01-14T04:02:22+00:00 MG Catur Yuantari mgcatur.yuantari@dsn.dinus.ac.id Ami Salwa Nafisah 411202003126@mhs.dinus.ac.id
Tuberculosis (TB) is a contagious infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It is one of the leading causes of death in the world. The increase in tuberculosis cases continues to rise. Tuberculosis is an environmentally-based disease; tuberculosis bacteria can be transmitted under certain environmental conditions. Physical environmental factors are thought to be risk factors that have a role in triggering the transmission of tuberculosis bacteria. The aim of the study was to analyze the relationship between physical environmental factors and the incidence of tuberculosis in elementary schools in North Semarang District. The study used quantitative observational analysis with cross sectional research design. This study was conducted in elementary schools in North Semarang District in September 2023 - January 2024.

The population in this study was all elementary schools in North Semarang District, which amounted to 33 elementary schools. Sampling using total sampling. This research instrument uses an observation sheet, a luxmeter, a thermohygrometer, and a roll meter. Data were processed with the Chi-Square test. The results showed that there was an association between the variables of lighting (p-value=0.0001), humidity (p-value=0.027), and temperature (p-value=0.0001) with the incidence of tuberculosis in elementary schools in North Semarang District. Meanwhile, the variables of ventilation area (p-value=1.000), and occupancy density (p-value=0.455) had no association with the incidence of tuberculosis in elementary schools in North Semarang Subdistrict. The suggestion in this study is that elementary schools in North Semarang Subdistrict are expected to conduct early prevention and implement tuberculosis control programs so that this disease does not become more widespread.
2026-01-26T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2026 Journal Occupational Health Hygiene and Safety
