To achieve research objectives, the researcher uses qualitative descriptive techniques with case study methods. Based on the results of research made by the researcher, it was found that a number of translations used modulation techniques as a way of conveying a good message to the target language. This makes the researcher interested in discussing modulation translation in this study because there are actually many difficulties in creating subtitles. A subtitle maker is required to convey and translate a message from the source language into the target language within a limited duration and pay attention to its acceptability. The data collection and analysis stages the researcher carried out based on the theories of experts such as Molina & Albir, Vinay, and Darbelnet. It was found that 16 utterances were translated using modulation technique and fell into four types of modulation, namely Reversal of Terms, Concrete to Abstract, Changes in Symbolism, and Rethinking of Intervals and limits, and the type most frequently used was Reversal of Terms with 43,75%. The study aims to determine which translation method has a wider range of vocabulary selection to effectively convey messages. Additionally, the research intends to explore the capability of machine translation in accurately translating English to Indonesian. The researchers follow a specific process to gather data. Firstly, we access the LOKLOK application and navigate to the film “The Bad Guys.” Next, the researchers activated the Indonesian language option within the application. Once this is done, we search for the English transcript of the film and proceed to meticulously analyze and compare it with the Indonesian translation available in the LOKLOK application. This thorough examination ensures accuracy and consistency in the subtitles’ alignment with the film’s dialogue. After that, the researchers translate the dialog from English to Indonesian with the DEEPL Translator website. This research concludes that the creativity of translation between the LOKLOK and DeepL is comparable, the reason why the literal technique is predominantly used in both applications is because there are a total of 27 techniques found in the former and 30 techniques found in the latter.

Keywords: DEEPL; LOKLOK; movie; translation techniques
Nanda Hasta Wulandari, Raden Arief Nugroho Copyright (c) 2024 UNCLLE (Undergraduate Conference on Language, Literature, and Culture) https://publikasi.dinus.ac.id/index.php/unclle/article/view/10827 Wed, 10 Jul 2024 00:00:00 +0000 TRANSLATION TECHNIQUE ANALYSIS FROM “RIA SW” YOUTUBE CHANNEL USING AUTO-TRANSLATE FEATURE AND HUMAN-MADE TRANSLATION https://publikasi.dinus.ac.id/index.php/unclle/article/view/10845

Abstract. This article focuses on finding the translation techniques in the translation, investigating the quality of Indonesian to English translation, and comparing the results of human and machine translation. In its analysis, the article points out that machine translation tends to ignore cultural nuances and linguistic context, which are important for accurate translation, and it also tends to make errors in vocabulary selection and grammar. Machines offer speed and consistency, but the quality of human translation is vastly superior when it comes to understanding cultural backgrounds, mapping words to precise contexts, and adapting original phrases and styles to the target language. Although machine translation is constantly advancing, the quality of human translation remains superior due to its ability to accurately understand and convey the essence of the content while aligning with the relevant cultural and contextual framework. It can be concluded that the results of the auto-translate feature on YouTube, equipped with automatic subtitles, when analyzed based on Molina & Albir's translation techniques, automatic translation tends to rely more on literal translation techniques. This demonstrates that the machine translation we have been using primarily tends to translate word for word.
