COOPERATIVE PRINCIPLES’ MAXIMS VIOLATIONS IN INTERVIEW BETWEEN ELLEN DEGENERES AND DAKOTA JOHNSON ON THE ELLEN SHOW

Abstract


Abstract: The important role in a communication is the cooperative principles that guide communication between people to make a conversation becomes coherent. This is the application from the researcher to analyse maxim violations between Ellen DeGeneres and Dakota Johnson on The Ellen Show because many people widely this case a few times ago in TikTok so the researchers want to deeply discuss about this topic. The data in this research was taken from the interview between Ellen DeGeneres and Dakota Johnson that collected used documentation. This research method is using descriptive qualitative using the theory of Grice’s conversational maxims. The result showed there are twenty six violations of maxims that found in the interview. Based on the finding, it can be concluded that the violations of maxims occurred in formal communication such as an interview because the interviewee disobeyed the maxims to get the particular purposes.
